WHAT IS THE MAA?
The MAA is a private, not-for-profit, member-run organization of 100+
aviation enthusiasts who jointly own six airplanes and hangars. The
organization is located at the Mishawaka Pilots Club on CR 20 (Mishawaka Road)
immediately southwest of Elkhart, Indiana.
WHO SHOULD JOIN?
Membership in the MAA is open to both private pilots and those interested in
learning how to fly. Certain insurance restrictions limits the number of
student pilots (those who have not attained a private pilot's certificate), and
the club is currently limited to 75 total members in the FLYING
category. For those individuals who would like to join but not take part in renting club
aircraft, they may join the club in the STAND-BY category. Dues for this
category are less, since direct overhead expenses related to operation of club
aircraft are not included.
WHAT DOES IT COST?
To participate in the overhead investment, new members pay an initiation
fee of $450. Low monthly dues ($32) for the FLYING category cover the organization's operating
costs, exclusive of actual flying charges. Members in the club's Stand-by
category pay $10 monthly dues. The very affordable airplane
hourly rates include fuel and maintenance. All MAA members also belong the
Mishawaka Pilots Club.
SCHEDULING AIRCRAFT
The MAA uses a state-of-the-art telephone scheduling system that allows
members to access from either a touch-tone phone of remotely-based PC.
Members can use this system to schedule or cancel reservations for aircraft,
leave voice messages for other members and check on the status of aircraft and
club activities.
AIRPORT OFFICE LOCATION
The MAA office is a new, spacious area available to plan flights,
including the use of a computer to access DUATS. It is located in the
club's largest hangar at the airport and may accessed by any member, 24-hour
daily. The area is also ideal for use by instructors and students in pre
and post flight reviews as well as small committee meetings.
